Friesian Stallions

(Belgian Blacks)

Ben (Born 14 June 1997), Sam (Born 24 April 1997), Twm (Born 2002) & Wil (Born 2002), our team of 16 hands high Friesian Stallions, were imported by Mark from Friesland, Northern Holland in June 2001 and 2005.

The Friesians strong black colour, together with their noble bearing and quiet temperament, have made them the first choice for Funeral horses for over two hundred years.

During the 19th Century the Friesians were imported to Britain, via the port of Antwerp in Belgium.  Therefore confusingly they became known in Britain as "Belgian Blacks".

  Marston Hearse

No. 11969   (Originally built 1914)

We acquired our original Marston hearse at the dispersal sale of the late George Shaw’s collection of carriages, which was located at Aysgarth Falls, North Yorkshire.

The hearse was sympathetically restored in our workshops during the spring of 2004.

Externally the etched glass is original whilst missing roof finials were cast from original patterns.  Brass blanks were cast, from which two missing hub caps were machined to match the originals.  Twenty coats of coach enamel traditionally applied by brush, provides a mirror finish to the paintwork.

Internally the mahogany has been refinished to a high standard, whilst the original head lining and fittings have been retained.

Our  immaculately presented turnout is accompanied  by a coachman and groom in traditional livery.
