The Lonsdale Drag was built by Barker & Co.,  for Hugh Lowther the 5th Earl of Lonsdale (The Yellow Earl) in approximately 1885 (we are awaiting confirmation of the exact date).  At some time in it's past it was sold to America.  In February 2007 it was purchased by Mark and returned to it's rightful place in the United Kingdom.

Barker & Co were a top London Carriage Manufacturer, building and maintaining carriages for the Aristocracy, including The Duke of Westminster.  During the life of the drag it has seen very little use and consequently is in nearly new condition.

Lord Lonsdale was known as The Yellow Earl as a consequence of the characteristic and striking Yellow and Black livery of all his carriages.  The Automobile Association (AA) continue to use his Yellow Livery since he granted permission for it's use when he was it's first President.

Lord Lonsdale's servants wore a striking Livery of White Beaver Top Hats, Canary Yellow Livery Coats with Dark Blue Facings and White Buckskin Breeches.  It is Mark's intention to replicate the Livery as closely as possible.

Mark would be very pleased to hear from anyone who has any information on Lord Lonsdale's carriages or Livery.

Anyone who wishes to see the Drag in use, please check the WHAT'S ON Page to find out dates and then check times with Mark.  We will be very pleased to see you.
